Singer-songwriter pianist Jeffery Straker grew up taking piano lessons in small town Saskatchewan, raised by a church organist mother, and an auctioneer father. Today he performs over 100 shows a year in Canada, Europe, and Latin America. With critical comparisons to Harry Chapin, Kris Kristofferson, and Billy Joel, his song writing is noted for its rootsy-storytelling brand and rich narratives. Jeffery’s performances have including playing live on BBC radio in the UK, sharing the stage with symphony orchestras, and intimate backyard summer shows across the prairies.
Jeffery’s songs have been used in TV, film, and stage productions. In 2019, he took home a Western Canadian Music Award. In 2020 and 2021 he was recognized as Roots-Folk Artist of the Year at the Saskatchewan Music Awards. Jeffery’s latest recording, Just Before Sunrise, was ranked no. 2 in the Saskatchewan Best Albums of 2021 and earned him a showcase at Folk Alliance International in Kansas City.
CBC Saskatchewan Weekend said of Jeffery that, “He has a way of drawing us into his world and making us feel like we’re a welcome guest; an old friend he’s ready to catch up with.” A perennial Bassment favourite, Jeffery Straker returns with his four-piece band to perform songs from his previous recordings and to debut his latest compositions.
