Growing up on the Wiikwemikoong First Nation in Ontario, JUNO Award winner Crystal Shawanda was taught by her parents to sign and play guitar. While Mom and Dad taught her the country classics, it was her oldest brother who introduced her to the blues. Even though she had a Top 20 hit on country radio and sold 50,000 copies of her country debut album in the United States, she realized that she wanted to be a blues artist. She formed her own label in 2015 and released The Whole World’s Got the Blues. In 2017, she released Fish Out of Water.
Since relocating to Toronto from his hometown of Detroit in 1968, Morgan Davis has been a major player on the Canadian blues scene. He’s recorded nine albums, won seven Maple Blues Awards as well as a JUNO Award, and penned Colin James’ first hit, Why’d You Lie?
